  1. Cybersecurity Regulations: Industry Panelists Identify Duplication and Conflicts and Ways to Address Them

U.S. Government Accountability Office, 2026-09-28. Read, 3 min.

GAO's September 28 report summarizes a July 16, 2026 panel at which six representatives of industry organizations in the energy, financial services, and healthcare and public health sectors identified federal cybersecurity regulations within their sectors that they consider duplicative or conflicting. Participants said defining reporting timeframes and thresholds consistently could reduce duplication, and that a lead agency to coordinate and receive incident reports would increase collaboration.

Why it matters for this role: Map each reportable incident type against your sector rule, SEC disclosure requirements, and the proposed DHS rule, because panelists from all three sectors told GAO these overlap and conflict.
